So far, although Deep Purple has been very generous by releasing many tapes from their archives, these have not yet surfaced. Despite some of the limitations mentioned above these are all very listenable documents. This is of particular value since most of the tapes have not been widely booted in the past and those have are very old and hard to find. The label has released several impressive comprehensive Deep Purple sets over the past couple of years and this is another addition to an impressive catalogue. Made In Japan is an important live album in the history of rock and many consider it to be the absolute peak of this Deep Purple line-up, playing the best live versions of their greatest songs. In lieu of the band releasing the complete soundboards from all three shows, Live In Japan Complete fills in a considerable void. This title is limited to three hundred copies and for the committed fan this is definitely worth having.

I found the remix on this disc to be great. Disc 2: Osaka, August 16 1972. The band sound more confident, as if they lacked any in the first place. It is, after all, the second Osaka show that made up the bulk of the original Made In Japan album. Once again, the remix is a joy. It has its own sonic charm, and I think both can co-exist happily in my collection. Interesting how they remix this album every 21 years.

They had such a great repertoire than they could have spared the audience this. Then one thinks the track is finished after the band stops completely around minute sixteen , but no : they start again for another five frenetic minutes of the hardest and loudest rock. But we all know the story now. This version is less heavy than on MIJ but rocks harder than the studio version. This track will be a favourite encore during the MIJ tour.
For me it is very simple. Each track of this two CD set is better than any other live rendition of the Purple and I do have all of them — at least the official ones. So, five stars are for me legitimate.

For one thing it is in black and white. For another the filming seems quite amateurish, or perhaps it was a crew who did not know much about rock music. The camera was frequently on a different part of the band than the main part of the music. When Ritchie Blackmore was on a guitar solo, the camera would be on Glover or Lord and vice versa.
