Tampa Bay Buccaneers 9-8 The quarterback situation needs to be watched most closely, as Baker Mayfield is a free agent. How the Bucs closed out the season considerably affects that, however. Winning a playoff game means they are out of range for the top quarterbacks.
He can create by leading the charge offensively, pushing deep inside the offensive zone to break down coverage.
This is especially true for his physical intensity level; he seems to get "meaner" with every viewing. Maybe he will continue to grow on me. But in a year with so many good defenseman available across the entire 2024 draft , I see others with a more defined role at the next level. He is a zone entry machine, who is always looking to circle back to lead the charge into the opposing end.
He is a very active forechecker and backchecker and an overall effective three zone player because of his speed. I do have some concerns. I kind of view him similarly to another former Steelhead in Owen Beck. Either way, you have to love the progression he has shown this year, finally taking that next step as a high end OHL player.
He already has such a great understanding of how he needs to play and his game will translate well to the pro level so long as he can continue to upgrade his skating. He can play multiple forward positions. He can kill penalties or play down low on the powerplay. He competes hard physically and in all three zones.
He loves to attack the middle of the ice and is great at protecting the puck in stride to offset any speed and quickness deficits. Stats and physical profile are pretty similar. I say this but I view the two pretty damn interchangeable. Both are terrific play trackers.
Both are athletic Leenders probably a little quicker. But I view George as a little more technically sound, quiet in his movements and better with his rebound control. He has been all over the plays of the week this year so far, stretching out to cover his posts to rob would be shooters. He never quits on a play and his composure in the crease this year for a younger Mississauga team has been impressive.
Once he cleans up a few technical things, that will improve. This is especially true about his rebound control. But, from what I understand, both of these guys are highly regarded by NHL scouts right now and are right in the conversation as the top goalies available. Both of their track records have been too good so far.
Jakub Fibigr - Defense - Mississauga Steelheads Really impressive two-way Czech defender who has emerged as a minute eater for the Steelheads in his rookie year. He is an effortless mover and it allows him to have a positive impact in a lot of areas. I love how he brings the fight to opposing puck carriers, stepping up early to disrupt clean entries. However, he also competes hard down low and near the crease and has some jam to his game.
This is just a really solid two-way defender. Honestly, I wanted to put him higher, but decision making errors have been an issue all year without a ton of growth and that has me a little concerned about the processing ability. Poorly timed pinches. Poorly chosen times to be aggressive to defend high.
Neutral zone turnovers. This really needs to get cleaned up. Given his skill, poise, and vision, I want him to command the puck. Overall, Cristoforo is still a solid prospect thanks to his IQ.
This is a very smart player. I just want to see him taking the bull by the horns to help lead this Windsor team out of their funk. Until I see more "dynamic" play from him, I feel more confident with him ranked in this range, rather than pushing for the first round as I had him preseason. Luchanko is a terrific skater who builds to top speed very quickly.
He has a profound impact on the transition game and is largely responsible for helping the Storm gain the zone at even strength and the powerplay. Even though he has that speed element, his game is actually predicated on quick touches and quick movement, as he darts in and out of coverage. His decision making with the puck has been sound too. You certainly wish he was a little bigger and a little more agile.
At this point, I seem him as a top 75 candidate, but towards the back end of that. After a late start to the year due to injury recovery, Testa has been terrific for the Bulldogs through the first month or so of his return. A high skill player, Testa was one of the more disappointing OHL rookies last year. He was just invisible on most nights and he really struggled away from the puck.
This year? He looks like a completely different player. In fact, he looks like a completely different player than he did as a U16 star too. If he played with this kind of fire and intensity at a consistent rate with Niagara North, he would have been a top five pick IMO.
So now what do we have? The arrival of Dalibor Dvorsky has had a real negative impact on his ice time and responsibility, and as a result, his offensive production has plummeted. Much like Liam Greentree, Villeneuve is very center of the ice focused. He drives the net.
He battles for position and can play net front on the powerplay. He is active and engaged in puck pursuit.
Celebrini is an intelligent play-driving forward who has an excellent shot but is not afraid to go to the dirty areas. He also has great poise for his age and is a dangerous playmaker. He currently has eight goals and three assists through six games.
The team that selects first overall will be getting a game-breaking talent and likely a franchise forward to build around. Of all the rankings I looked at, only EliteProspects. Eiserman is an elite goal-scorer, likely the best in this draft class, and can play at high speeds which bodes well for transitioning to the NHL. Eiserman came very close to breaking that record last season but came just shy with 69 in 62 games between the U17 and U18 teams. No rankings I looked at have him lower than third.
He drives the offence, as evidenced by his 19 goals and 62 points through 41 games in the MHL last season. Once he finds some stability, the points will surely follow. With a December birthday, Demidov is on the older side of first-year-eligible draft prospects. That said, the wait could be worth it as he could end up being a top-line scorer at the NHL level. NCAA Artyom Levshunov ranks anywhere in the four to six range, but I like him at the high end of that range, right after the big three.

Macklin Celebrini looked like the top prospect entering the season, and he remains in the pole position after a blazing start to the year with Boston University. The endlessly creative Ivan Demidov and the automatic goalscorer Cole Eiserman round out the top-three, but Cayden Lindstrom is working his way into the after-Macklin tier. The 6-foot-4 power centre has the complete package of skill, speed, and smarts. If his development and production continue at their torrid paces, there could be changes in the top-three.
More experience will benefit him well. But all and all, Dickinson has all the defensive tools and skating to succeed at the NHL level. If this draft were to happen a year ago, this kid would have been the obvious choice for first overall. But the combination of being jumped by the prospects above him and the inability to develop his size derailed his stock. But whenever I watch this kid, I think of Cale Makar. This is basically a worse version of Hutson.
His shot from the point is really good as well, all and all this is an all-offense product. This Finland-born product already has 33 games of experience against men. Putting up 11 points as a 16-year-old is ridiculous to think about. His shot is also extremely good and is also a really fluid skater.

Like the first drawing, the second winner can only jump ten spots, but this time it is using the re-seeded order following the first drawing.
Levshunov has collected quite a few assists at 5v5 as a result of generating rebounds for his teammates at the crease.
Since he likes to pinch up and play up in the offensive zone, there are shifts in which he finds himself slightly out of position and struggles to get back into position. He loves to take advantage of tight passing lanes when on the rush and pressure intensifies. Parekh will complete outlet and stretch passes underneath the stick of the attacker with ease.
When off puck but his team has possession of the puck, Parekh loves to jump into the rush and provide his teammates with a passing option up ice. In the offensive zone, when pinching up he loves to change up his pace to throw off attackers and buy separation so he can net enough space to get a pass off to the interior. Last year the Finn put himself in the conversation as a potential top five pick, with 11 points in 33 Liiga games at just 16 years old.
This year he has advanced that conversation further. That should probably be turning more heads than it has. He is a fantastic transition player and drives play as a result.
His passing is crisp, accurate and deceptive, and while he might primarily be a play-maker he has a good shot, especially his one-timer from the left half-wall on the power-play. He is not the fastest, but is extremely shifty and agile. Helenius also has an exceptional compete level, and is more than solid defensively.
Alex Appleyard 12 — Luke Misa, C, Mississauga Luke Misa plays a very high-tempo game, prays on the vulnerable when on the forecheck, can drive the rush and create chances off of the rush regularly. Misa will feather passes in tight lanes in all three zones as he looks to push play up ice. In the offensive zone when off puck, he does a great job of finding open ice down low to create an intriguing passing option for his teammates.
He will also look to jump onto loose pucks at the crease and capitalize with a quick goal before the goaltender can react. Misa has tremendous upside and could see a bump up in our next set of rankings. The highest a Norweigan has been picked was Marius Holtet, who went 42nd overall in 2002.
The Oslo native has everything to be a top NHLer. The things that make him stand out? His release is fantastic, he gets the puck off crisply, quickly, and with a high level of accuracy even if it is away from his body or in his feet.
His hockey IQ is impressive, he is virtually never out of position and seemingly knows where everyone is on ice at all times. He is also a legitimate power-forward, who likes to throw his weight around and get to the net-front. On the boards he regularly dominates men 15 years his senior.
Defensively he is also impressive, with an active stick and the ability to win most 1-v-1 battles. His skating is solid, but will need to get more explosive. Additionally, while his vision is fantastic, he does not always connect on pass attempts, and will likely never be a high-end play-maker.
But make no mistake, he has the potential to be one of the premier two-way wingers in the NHL. He uses the threat of his shot very effectively to create passing lanes for his teammates to move into. He plays a very intelligent game which sees him attack the middle often and quite successfully as he leverages a combination of his high-level stickhandling and physical tools.
The knock on his game thus far has been his quirky staking style, but it seems to be improving with each game, and he still has good speed in-spite of his mechanics. Additionally, he has proven to be quite the effective penalty killer for Windsor, and this is a result of his excellent stick movement, often eliminating passing lanes in the defensive zone and helping create passing options in the offensive zone. Similarly to Misa, he looks to pray on the vulnerable and does a great job of stick lifting and poke checking to cause disruption in puck possession.
Iginla does well at feathering passes in tight and does a good job with puck security when being pursued by multiple attackers at close proximity. Iginla has second line upside and could be deployed at center or wing without losing a step. But make no mistake, the Nizhnekamsk native has been one of the best three Russian forwards amongst his age-group for the last couple of years.
This year however? He has taken a giant leap, and is playing at a level in the KHL that very few draft eligibles ever achieve. Artamonov belies the outdated stereotype of the skilled, Russian winger who only plays in the offensive zone.
He is an energiser bunny. Voracious on the fore-check, diligent in the defensive zone, with an active stick that constantly disrupts lanes. Furthermore, while no-one would mistake him for a physical player, he is more than happy to go to the corners or net-front.
He is a great skater and a fantastic passer, alongside this his ability to get free ice in the offensive zone is exceptional. The downsides? He has extremely good speed for his size especially his lateral speed that allows him to shift positioning when he is slighly further away from where he needs to be when defending against the rush.
